10 best hairstyles for Valentine's Day

Have you decided on a hairstyle for Valentine's Day? Me, neither. There are so many options of Valentine hairstyles for long hair. How could you ever choose? Here are my top 10 favorite Valentine's Day hairstyles. You're sure to find one that you love, too.

    1. Marylin Monroe curls. Nothing says gorgeous and romantic like Marylin Monroe's iconic hair styles. This is a great look for hair that's medium to long in length. For the best results, put damp hair in rollers and let it air dry for staying power. For a softer look, you can use hot rollers, but only on dry hair. Once you take the rollers out, create a deep, undefined side part, causing bangs to swoop across your forehead. Separate curls and spray with hair spray for lasting hold.

    2. French bangs. Super short bangs, like Katy Perry's, are flirty, fun, and very French. This look works best for straight hair, just be sure to turn the ends under for a grownup look.

    3. Long, loose curls. Loose, flowing curls are still gorgeous and romantic. Use your hot rollers or a large barrel curling iron to create large, soft curls. Spray with hair spray and allow to cool. Gently separate curls for a soft, undefined look.

    4. Loose chignon. This look works best on long, wavy hair. Pull hair back into a low, loose ponytail. Bring hair up and over the ponytail, then tuck inside itself for an easy chignon. Secure with a few pins or barrettes.

    5. Messy bun. A messy bun is great for a casual date. Pull your hair up in a high ponytail, leaving out a few pieces here and there. Coil the tail around the base of the pony, then secure with a hair tie. Spritz in place. Curl any odd ends if you desire.

    6. Spiral curls. This is a formal, serious look. Curl tiny sections of hair at a time, with a small curling iron. Spritz hair each section of hair with hair spray before you put it into the barrel of the curling iron. Allow hair to cool and spray again. Leave curls as is or separate with your fingers.

    7. Half up/half down. Curl your hair just like you would for long, loose curls. Then pull the top section (above the ears) back and create a small bun with two hair elastics. Attach a small flower or jeweled barrette.

    8. Messy braids. For another cool, casual look, create messy braids. Roughly separate hair in half at the base of the neck. Divide each half into three sections, and quickly braid. Secure the ends with a hair tie, and then go back and rough up the braid a little bit for an edgier look.

    9. Twisted chignon. Part your hair down the middle of your head. Take one side of the head, starting at the front center of your face, and twist the hair, directing it towards the back of the head. Keep the twist just above your ears. Add hair with every twist, so that all the hair on that side is incorporated in the twist. Secure with pins and repeat on the other side. Allow sides to meet and tuck the ends inside the twist for a loose, twisted chignon. Secure and spray.

    10. Fish tail braid. My favorite look for Valentine's Day is a fish tail braid. Rake your fingers through your hair to remove any major tangles. Pull hair together and divide in half, starting at the base of your neck. Create a fish tail braid by taking a tiny piece of hair from the back of one section, crossing it over and joining it behind the other. Keep alternating sections until you reach the end of your hair. Secure with an elastic. Rough up the braid if necessary.

Don't forget to practice your Valentine's Day hairstyle ahead of time so you don't have to panic on Valentine's Day. Make sure you have pins, a curling iron, and of course, hair spray on hand to create the look you want for your special date.
