10 ways to refresh your home for spring

Welcome the arrival of spring with a few small changes to your home's interior. Brighten things up with lightweight fabrics, sunny prints, and a fresh coat of paint. Use these 10 ideas to refresh your home for spring and enjoy a new look in every room.

    Windows

Spring decorating should be light and airy, so begin by removing those heavy winter drapes. Wash them and store them away until next year, and replace them with sheer curtains instead. These lightweight window treatments will let the warmth of the new season shine through, while still offering a bit of privacy.

Fabrics Add a splash of color to the bedroom, living room, or den with bright new fabrics. Replace heavy quilts and comforters with light duvets. Store away warm chenille throw blankets and heavy pillows with fun, decorative ones instead. Bright colors and fun patterns can be found in the outdoor furniture section at your local department store. Use them inside the home and you'll enjoy the benefits of some of the prettiest, yet most durable, accent pieces you've ever had.

    Artwork

Remove the artwork that stays in place all year long and replace it with sunny springtime prints. Floral prints, lush meadows, sunsets, and beach scenes will add a warm touch to every area of the house. Don't forget to use personal photos, too!

    Knick-knacks

Adding new knick-knacks to your springtime décor is a simple way to decorate your home. A bowl of seashells, a few glass picture frames, a collection of small vases, or even a basket of wildflowers can set the tone for an entire room. If you're short on cash, a bowl of fresh fruit will also work just fine! And don't forget -- scented candles can look nice, and add an aroma that will leave you feeling energized and ready for the change of season.

    Paint

There is no faster way to refresh your home than with a new coat of paint. Add a splash of color behind the cook top in the kitchen, or accent a main wall in the living room. Paint the entryway a sunny yellow, or be bold with an invigorating shade of red. You're sure to liven up any room in the house by adding color, and the project will cost around $20 or less. Wall décor

In addition to, or instead of, painting, use temporary wall décor to bring spring colors into a room. Removable wall appliqués or temporary wall borders are a fabulous way to add pattern and color to a room. Choose where you want them, set them in place, and them remove them when spring is over. They can even be reused!

    Lamps

Refresh the lamps in your home with new lampshades. For around $10 a piece, new lampshades will give a fresh look to your room. Be sure to select neutral paper shades that will lighten up the space.

    Hardware

Change up the hardware in the kitchen and enjoy the look of a brand new kitchen. You will be amazed at what a difference new drawer knobs and pulls will make! Best of all, this quick home improvement will cost less than $50.

    Furniture

With the arrival of spring comes a vast selection of outdoor furniture. If it is within your budget, purchase a few sturdy pieces to use indoors. A metal table and chair set would make a nice seasonal addition to an eat-in kitchen or entryway. A wicker rocker or side table will add a casual touch to any room, and will match beautifully with any type of home décor.

    Placement

If purchasing something new is not a possibility, simply rearrange the furniture you have to create a fresh new look. Create a comfortable seating area in the living room by pulling pieces to the center of the room. In the bedroom, try opening things up by removing extra dressers or side tables. In the kitchen, clean off countertops and reorganize things so that only the essentials are displayed.

Don't forget to add something completely unique and unexpected to every room. This is a great way to refresh your home and give it an original feel. Try any of the ideas below.
