When I made the decision to move in with my boyfriend four years ago, I wasn't sure how things were going to work out. I had never lived with anyone before and I wondered if being around each other so much would break us apart. Although living with each other has had its downsides, we have had a lot of fun and enjoy living under the same roof. Here are three things I learned from living with my boyfriend.
Men Need Their Space Sometimes
Women aren't the only ones who like their alone time; men need their space too. If my boyfriend doesn't get enough space, he gets cranky and irritable. He likes to occasionally sit by himself on the couch and watch his sports teams. When he tells me he wants to be alone, I let him be because I don't want to get my head bitten off.
Staying Angry Is Pointless
When you live under the same roof as your boyfriend, it is pretty pointless to stay angry at him. I've gotten mad at my boyfriend plenty of times throughout the years, but I haven't stayed mad at him for more than a few hours. I knew that staying mad at him would just make us both miserable because we are around each other so much. Luckily, we always try to communicate after each argument we have to make things better.
Learning How to Compromise Is Important
When I first moved in with my boyfriend, we got into a lot of arguments because we couldn't compromise. He wanted to watch sports while I wanted to watch a reality TV show. I wanted to eat chicken for dinner while he preferred to order a pizza. Luckily, we learned how to compromise eventually and it reduced the number of arguments we had. If you are unwilling to compromise with your boyfriend while you live together, things will just be miserable.
Although things are never perfect, living with my boyfriend has been a blast.
