Parenting is no picnic. Still, it does have its positive side. It's a good thing, too. If all we had to look forward to were poopy diapers, pacing the floor at night and fending off our teenage daughters' boyfriends, nobody would ever have children. We all know about the good stuff, of course. Who doesn't melt the first time our baby smiles, draws us a picture or learns to say Mommy? There are millions of moments like these that make it all worthwhile. On the lighter side, there are also some crazy parenting perks we never thought of.
Four crazy parenting perks:
You become an instant celebrity, at least in the eyes of your kids. They adore you. They emulate you. You amaze and astound them. You are their hero. You can do no wrong. Doesn't that feel great? Even your own mother doesn't love you that much. Don't get used to it, though. They'll be teenagers soon. Your status will be considerably lower then.
You have an excuse to be somewhat frumpy. If you wake up one day and just aren't yourself, you can slack off a little more than non-parents. People understand if you're somewhat frazzled or have a bad hair day. Just don't abuse the privilege. No kid wants their mom showing up at school in slippers and curlers.
You get to play hopscotch again. In fact, you get to play all kinds of games you played as a kid. You also get to play all the games your kids like to play now. You even get to play video games without people teasing you about growing up. What's more, nobody will laugh at you, no matter how ridiculous you look. In fact, they'll praise you for spending time with your kids.
You get free spa treatments. Your younger kids love to style your hair, give you massages and scratch your back. In fact, they'll do it without asking. Mine used to put lotion on my feet for me, too. Take advantage while they're young, though. Once they reach about 10, all that is over. You'll be lucky if you can get them to hand you the hairbrush.
