Lips take a "beating" everyday. They test our foods, hot and cold, speak our thoughts and give kisses, when the need arises. After a long day, we will soak our tired feet, give the face a good scrub but forgot all about our hardworking lips. I'll be the first to admit, buying a lip scrub seems like a splurge but making one will cost you pennies, or dimes. These four super-easy homemade lip scrubs are easy to whip up anytime you need chapped lip relief.
Sugar lips : White or brown sugar will work for this sweet recipe. In a lidded plastic bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with ½ teaspoon of olive oil. Dip your finger in the mix and rub it on your lips for about 10 to 15 seconds. Rinse the scrub off with warm water and follow up your treatment with petroleum jelly. Pop the lid on a plastic bowl and stash it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it again.
Minty treat : Get added refreshment with this lip mixture. In your handy storage bowl, add 2 tablespoons of sugar with 1 tablespoon of honey. Lastly, add 1 drop of peppermint oil and mix it well. Apply this homemade lip scrub with clean fingertips then rinse it away.
Honey, honey : Sweet and smooth, honey is a humectant, meaning it attracts and holds moisture naturally. Squirt a tablespoon of honey in a glass condiment bowl. Heat up the honey for 5 to 10 seconds then tap the honey on your lips. Use caution when heating the honey. Heating it too much may burn your sensitive kisser. Leave the honey on the lips for 1 minute before rinsing it off with warm water.
Baking magic : Sensitive lips may find rough sugar a bit much. This easy recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of oil. Once you combine the ingredients, you will have an effective paste for your dry, chapped lips. Rub it on the lip area to remove flakes. Unfortunately, this recipe does not store very well so mix what you need and toss out the rest.
Don't skimp on small cosmetic pleasures, just go cheap! Try them all and share them with friends. Good lip health not only feels good, it looks good too. Make your favorite lipstick look fabulous by starting with smooth, sensual looking lips.
