There are tricks and tips for just about everything in life. As a beauty consultant, I have learned specific tricks for my craft. Whether it is for basic skin care, makeup application or hair care, I learned simple tricks that have given customers great results. These tricks are cheap too. Here are five simple and cheap beauty tricks you can do yourself.
Trick #1: Use Water Temperature to Your Advantage
- Wash face with cold water to tighten pores temporarily. This also helps slow down oil production. Keep I mind I said it helps slow down oil production not stops it. Follow your cold wash immediate with pore minimizing products and oil absorbers to longer lasting oil-control.
- Wash face with lukewarm water if you use anti-aging products. Lukewarm water will not tighten pores, allowing nighttime beauty treatments to absorb into skin easily.
- Rinse hair with warm water before applying a deep conditioner. The heat opens the hair cuticle allowing the moisturizers and proteins in the conditioner to penetrate deep into the hair shaft.
- Do a cold-water final rinse for hair. This is nothing completely new but many forget this step. I have preached this in articles many times. Cold water closes the cuticle. A closed or flat cuticle reflects light better giving hair a natural shine.
Trick #2: Cotton Swabs
Cotton swabs or Q-Tips (if you like brand names) are my favorite makeup tool. They are clean, disposable, serve multiple purposes and are cheap. Here are a few things I use cotton swabs for:
- Blending eyeshadow - Cotton swabs quickly blur the harsh lines between eyeshadow shades and work for both cream and powder shadows.
- Smudge eyeliner for a smoky eye look.
- Clean up makeup mistakes - If you stroke color farther out than intended on the eyes or lips you can use one of these babies to clean that mistake up quickly.
- They are great for messy nail polish application. Just dip the swab in polish remover and clean up any polish that got on the skin near the nail.
- Emergency makeup applicator - you can apply eyeshadow, eyeliner, eyebrow powder and lip color with a cotton swab.
Trick #3: Self-Tanner Also Evens Skin Tone
If you use a self-tanning lotion, wipe, mist or cream on your face then skip foundation. The self-tanner will even out your skin tone as the tan develops. Just wear an oil-free moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher. This trick allows you to sweat without having streaky makeup.
Trick #4: Always Carry Clear Lip Moisturizer
A clear lip moisturizer or lip balm does more than keep lips smooth. It is a mini beauty first aid kit. I love Moisture Therapy Intensive Treatment Lip Ointment SPF 15.
- It soothes dry lips.
- Apply to eyebrows to tame them.
- Apply to dry, cracked cuticles and rub in to soften them.
- Use it to slick down hangnails.
- Apply to eyelid and under eye area to relieve dryness or tightness.
Trick #5: Limes Work Better than Lemons
Many people are familiar with using lemons to help with exfoliation and fading dark spots. Lemon's cousin the lime works faster and is more potent. When I have a light scar, I apply fresh lime juice to it at night. In a few weeks, the scar is gone.
If you have sensitive skin, limes may irritate your skin so stick to lemons if they work for you. Always apply lemon and lime to skin at night because they make the skin more sensitive to the sun, which can actually make the area(s) you are trying to lighten become darker. Always wear a sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher to protect skin.
These beauty tricks I learned as a beauty consultant work. They are simple to do and do not require expensive products. Do you have any tricks you've learned from a beauty professional that have worked for you?
