The day after my daughter turns six months old, I will celebrate my very first Mother's Day as a full-fledged mom. My daughter is really gift enough for me, but my husband feels the need to honor my motherhood this year. That sweet sentiment in mind, I've come up with five gifts that I think would be perfect for a first-time mom, such as myself. Fortunately, none of them should break the bank, which is a great thing when you've just factored another person into your household budget!
Photos
As a new mom, I am obsessed with capturing my baby on camera, documenting every new outfit, facial expression, and experience. A perfect Mother's Day gift would be to organize those photos for me in some way - a scrapbook, collage, album, or novelty item. Since I'm usually the one behind the camera, an even more precious gift would be pictures of the baby and me - either framing one that already exists or arranging to have some taken.
Pampering
New moms rarely get any time for themselves. I go from work mode to baby-watching mode to housecleaning mode before I finally make it to sleep mode, and there is rarely ever any downtime in between. A perfect Mother's Day gift for a new mom might be giving her some of that "me" time she lacks. Send her to a spa with a girlfriend to get pampered, ship her off to the mall with a gift card and instructions to spend money only on herself, or allow her to lock the door to her bedroom with a good book and bottle of wine.
Plant
I remember planting a lilac bush at home when I was a young girl, and seeing that plant whenever I return reminds me of my "roots." As a new mom, a perfect Mother's Day gift would be a tree or bush that I could plant and watch grow along with my baby. It would be fun for her to think of it as "her tree," to watch them grow together, and to remember this beautiful time of her infancy whenever I stop to admire it.
Personalized jewelry
Jewelry is always a good gift choice for Mother's Day. Personalized jewelry is an even better gift choice for a new mom! As proud as I am of my daughter, I would love to wear a piece of jewelry that reminds me of her and might even give me an excuse to talk about her. Some perfect personalized jewelry choices would be a necklace featuring her birthstone, a personalized stackable ring, or a monogrammed bracelet.
Personal assistance
There are some deep-cleaning projects I've been dying to get my hands on, but as a new mom, it's hard to make the time. A perfect Mother's Day gift would be for my husband to spend time detailing my car or organizing the upstairs hallway closet. I'd even love to help him out - spending time together while being productive is my idea of a good Mother's Day!
