5 tips for eating less fast food

Fast food has become a plague on this planet. Don't get me wrong. I eat fast food, but not as much as I used to. As someone who is trying hard to lose weight, I know that fast food restaurants can be a tricky place. After all, you may go through the drive-thru with the best intentions, but get home to find that your subconscious self took over and ordered a half-pound cheeseburger. Thankfully, there are tips you can use to eat less fast food.

    Be Prepared

One of the reasons people turn to fast food is because they need a fast option. Whether you have children heading to soccer practice or forgot about an important church meeting, there will be nights when you need a quick meal. This is why you must be prepared. Having a few quick meals on hand can help ensure you don't order fast food. Stock your freezer with healthy skillet meals, load the pantry with whole grain pasta and healthy sauce, etc.

Find Recipes That Are Quick and Easy

Quick and easy recipes can be a girl's best friend. Take the time to create a folder on your desktop and collect quick and easy recipes. Next, make sure your kitchen is stocked with the ingredients needed to make these meals. On the nights that you're stumped on what to cook, open the folder and pick one of those quick recipes.

    Take Advantage of Your Freezer

Another great trick you can use is to stock your freezer with prepared meals. There are a number of meals that can be multiplied without any additional work. For example, you could make a large batch of homemade pasta sauce and freeze several containers. You could also make a large turkey dinner and freeze the leftover turkey for a quick weeknight dinner.

    Share the Wealth

Mothers across the country join groups of neighbors and other mothers to exchange food. The idea is that each woman cooks enough food for her family and the families of the other 6 members in the group. This means that you only have to cook one meal per week. Each week you get together with the other members to exchange the dishes and you're done.

    Use a Gift Card

Last, but not least, a gift card is a wonderful way to control how much fast food you eat. Allow yourself a set amount each week as a treat and once the money is gone, no more fast food until you reload the card next month.

Fast food doesn't have to be your go-to plan when you're short on time. Follow these tips and start eating less fast food.
