(Guinness Book of World Records)We interrupt your Memorial Day weekend celebrations for some breaking news: THIS DOG HAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST EYES.
Those Guinness World Record fact-keepers have proclaimed 4-year-old Bruschi's cartoonishly popped googly eyes are bigger than any other dogs' on the planet. Just how big is that? Try 28 millimeters in diameter each, or the size of this Cartier watch face, or this German coin, or this insanely large Australian raspberry.
The mysterious origin of dogs
When Bruschi, a black and white Boston terrier, isn't making people feel uncomfortable, he's hanging out with his roommates, owner Victoria Reed and Toby, a fellow Boston terrier, in their Texas home.
It was Victoria who entered him as a Guinness contestant after friends and family constantly remarked about Bruschi's giant gumball eyes.
Therapy dogs given full ride to college
Because I don't like to judge a dog by his eyes, I tried not to imagine Bruschi's disposition as wildly enthusiastic. Turns out, eyes don't lie.
"He's up and down, jumpy, hyper, always by my side twitching and wiggling," Victoria reports on Guinness' website. "He always snorts... it's so loud you can hear him in another room, or when you're on the phone with someone -- I usually can't hear the TV either!"
Two more cute things before I share something disturbing. 1. He likes wearing bandanas and puts up with a bunny costume if he has to. 2. He sometimes growls at other dogs as if to say "What you looking at?" Okay, ready? Stop eating.
More pets who've broken world records
One of his eyeballs popped out of its socket last year. It's not clear how it happened (fate, perhaps?) but he was quickly patched up by a vet and left with only peripheral vision.
Back to pleasant facts: he likes tennis balls and cuddling with best bud Toby, who totally isn't freaked out by Bruschi's peepers, because Toby sees beyond them into his heart and then further past his heart into his bowl, which is filled with snacks. Yeah, there are perks to breaking a world record.
