David Letterman

Born: April 12, 1947, Indianapolis, Indiana

The man whose name is synonymous with Stupid Pet Tricks is no fool himself. Yes, David Letterman loves to yuck it up on late-night TV -- as long as he has the last laugh. The gap-toothed Hoosier, like many comedians, started in stand-up and then moved on to sitcoms. His breakout gig, however, was subbing for nighttime television guru Johnny Carson. When Letterman didnt get the Carson gig for keeps (it went to Jay Leno instead), he took his shtick to CBS, where the Top Ten Lists and other silliness still reign supreme.

Born under an Aries Sun, Letterman is a pioneer, eager to blaze a new trail in comedy and on TV. Its no surprise that many of the comedians riffs are so in-your-face, since this dynamic and action-oriented man can hardly contain himself. Its Lettermans independent streak, however, that can get him into trouble, since hes prone to arrogance and a me first! approach to life, which can grate on others.

His Moon rests in Capricorn, lending daring Dave a healthy dose of drive and ambition. The late-night host will feel most comfortable when hes working diligently toward his success. A prickly wrinkle in Lettermans chart is the fact that his Sun and Moon are squaring one another in the heavens. As these two planets are busy duking it out, Dave is left with considerable inner tension and little emotional satisfaction for his efforts. As self-assured as he seems on TV, Letterman may actually be quite self-conscious and self-critical.

With a rising sign of Scorpio, Daves appearance to the world is that of an intense and probing man who is quirkily magnetic. Some might even call him sexy, and he can certainly charm the pants off anyone -- when hes so inclined. With Jupiter conjunct his ascendant, Letterman has a lot of the teacher in him, and his nightly classroom to the masses provides the perfect forum from which to preach.

The comedians Mercury in Pisces marks him as one who is perceptive and knows what to say. Letterman goes with feelings over intellect much of the time, tossing ideas around in his mind and engaging in creative play, as opposed to following more practical pursuits. Perhaps his practical pursuits (fame, a healthy bank balance) have been met, allowing him more freedom to play with ideas and emotions.

Love is also an idealistic play for Letterman, due to Venus in Pisces as well. The much-pursued funnyman can be quite unrealistic when it comes to romance, thinking hes got Cinderella when hes actually consorting with her wicked stepsister instead. Too bad, since Letterman can be tender, affectionate and sentimental with his lover. His Mars in Aries, however, gives Letterman his fight back. The planet of passion and assertion has met a kindred spirit in the Ram, and together, these two help Dave go out and get what he wants. Due to his Aries Sun and Mars put together with his Scorpio rising, Letterman may be somewhat short-tempered, in a hurry and possessed of the stamina that will get him to the finish line first. Will he be laughing when he gets there? Absolutely!
