When you enter into a new situation today, watch for people who aren't interested in making you feel at home. They could see you as the competition (even if you are not) and give you less than a naturally warm welcome. They're going through the motions just enough to seem polite, but not enough to feel genuine. Don't take this treatment personally. And do not bend over backward to ingratiate yourself to this person -- there is no sense in wasting energy trying to charm someone like this.
