Politely say 'no, thanks,' and don't feel guilty about letting anyone else down. They just want you to be happy. If you need some hibernation time, they should support that.
Don't let your mind get to you today. Feelings of being threatened and frightened will soon pass. Take short trips if you're traveling. Having a partner to fill the void is not in your favor today.
