It all depends on the shade. I painted my kitchen benjamin moore "moroccan red" and I love it. It's a deep shade.
      • JMP 3 months ago
I totaly agree. The shade of red could make or break the entire look. It would be nice if the shade/brand of paint was noted more often in decorating ideas, not just paint company ads.

I just googled that shade and ooh-la-la. Maybe my entryway!

Red makes people hungry. That is why it is used in so many restaurants.
      • Joyce 3 months ago
        ohh no wonder!
      • Amanda 3 months ago
No it's yellow that makes people hungry and red is what makes people rush. Which is why red and yellow together are used in all fast food places.
      • tonya 3 months ago
yup, red and yellow. Any "warm" color that creates an upbeat feel. And furniture designed to make you feel great sitting down, but you get uncomfortable after 10-15 minutes. That way you're happy to eat and run.

Red is a beautiful "I'm alive & willing to take risks" kinda shade, used in moderation in the correct places it brings life and is just so much more enjoyable to look at than all those pale, drab colors that are the norm. :).

I love red. It's my favorite color. I did my kitchen in red Coca Cola and my living room is in red, black and gray. I even have a red leather couch and matching chair. Everyone that see it loves it.

My hubby insisted on red walls. Very hard color to work with. I don't recommend it. It just overpowers everything.

I did see a bedroom painted all red recently online and all the bed linens were white along with white lamps with white lampshades on each side of the bed. The bed frame was painted white with a tiny line of red.
They had a white bear skin rug on each side of the bed. (probably fake)

There were 2 medium size pictures over the bed which were different poses of white bears and the frames where white with a thin red stripe around the inside of the frame. The window had white curtains again with a thin red strip along the valance. At the end of the bed there was a red and white design loveseat with red and white pillows.

All the white is what really made the room beautiful and the red walls did not overwhelm the room that way. I think this was a designer room and they probably made the curtains, painted the bed and the picture frames themselves, they may have even made all the accent pillows and maybe bought all the rest.

You could also have a large photo of yourself and your husband or all your children dressed in white and request a white background or a beach or sand dume background and then paint your frame with the red and white the bears picture had.

Sorry but I do not remember what site it was on as I had looked for bedroom designs for hours, but I did remember this one as it was really beautiful.

Why are people afraid of a little color on their walls? White walls are so boring and safe. A little color makes a big difference.

Don't use red if you keep a pet bull in the house.

        Dogs dont see color
      • tonya 3 months ago
@Interested Neighbor, it wasn't "Pitbull", it was "Pet Bull". As in, a bull with a ring in his nose. As in, a bull is a boy cow. As in, eats grass not meat. The thing about "red" in this case is that bullfighters use that color in their capes/drapes/fabric stimulants. It has long been held that red is the only color bulls can see [but there is no science to support it].

Red is fine in small doses. In big splashes it can make someone feel uneasy. I much prefer the blued down red of burgundy and cordovan, which seems somehow classier than red, and infinitely classier than orange red. Red has been described by psychiatrists as an angry color. I agree. Wear it, use it in small accessories or in furniture, but don't put it on the walls of an entire room, for gosh sakes. Red is great with ample amounts of white, and is a more classic look that way, or paint the walls a medium to deep blue and use white and dashes of red for another crisp look.

Although I think red is a pretty color, bright red shades irritate my nerves. I feel irritated even wearing it. It has everything to do with the person's nervous system. Maybe it's an introvert vs. extrovert thing. I tend to love turquoise and greens. I love pink-red though.

Red is so bold, it scares me. I am not a risk taker apparently. The only thing i might try is buying red plates :)

I like red but not on walls...I wouldn't mind a touch of red in some art paintings, fine china or
      crafts.
    • Janine  •  Nashville, Tennessee  •  3 months ago
My LR walls are a soft pale yellow....and you would not believe how beautifully it showcases all the red I have in there....more of a burgundy red. With the same reds and deep browns & beiges in my throw rugs, and red, yellow, and autumn colors in my varied striped & paisely print throw pillows-and the black wrought iron furniture ( the sofa is leather).....my kitchen is slate blue, white and RED with black, my bedroom is done in autumn colors with red....I love red!
