The Great Gatsby
The surest way to go wrong adapting F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel is to treat it too reverently. There's no chance of that happening with Baz Luhrmann's new version, which promises to be, well, Luhrmann-esque-an explosion of pop music, visual exuberance, and operatic passion. Leonardo DiCaprio plays self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan is his adored Daisy Buchanan, whose voice is "full of money." So is this lavish production-also starring Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, and Isla Fisher-which Warner Bros. hopes will have audiences roaring their pleasure with the Roaring Twenties.
