It's officially spring and retailers are preparing for warm weather and hotter sales. In April you'll find deals on everything from laptops to travel, as well as some March deals on winter gear that have been extended a few weeks. Although the selection will be slimmer on last season's goods, prices may be deeply discounted.Car parts and tires are on a good buy this month.

Used cars and car accessories/parts. April is National Car Care Month, so car parts stores and service centers will be running promotions to sell car accessories. If your car needs a tune-up, this is a service to buy in April. It's also a good time to add discount tires to your shopping list. Used car dealers stock up on inventory in April in anticipation of warm weather and spring car sales. So beat the crowds for a better selection of used cars and hunt around for dealers willing to negotiate.
Vacations. Spring is one of the best times of the year for travel. Sandwiched between the winter and summer peak travel seasons, April offers pleasant weather and lower airfare and hotel stays throughout much of Europe and Asia. Take advantage of the travel shoulder season to enjoy cheap flights, hotel deals, and thinner tourist crowds. Travel deals to buy in April include cruise vacations. Given recent events, cruise deals are expected to be exceptionally attractive this year; be sure to check Cheapism's list of cheap cruises.
Jewelry. April is the prime month to buy jewelry. Jewelers are eager to compete for your tax refund money with low prices to get you in the door. This is also the moment to get a head start on your Mother's Day shopping. Bling is the thing to buy in April because if you wait until May, prices will be on the rise.
Home improvement supplies. With spring in the air you're no doubt ready to tackle some of those DIY projects you let slide over the winter. In past years Home Depot has offered a national "Black Friday is Back" sale in April making it the month to stock up on home improvement supplies. A snow blower and other cold weather provisions are practical items to buy in April.

Sneakers. Whether you're gearing up for a charity walk/run or just want to shed those winter pounds in anticipation of upcoming days on the beach, sneakers are a must. The good news: Retailers anticipate this surging interest and offer deals and discounts so you'll buy sneakers or cheap running shoes in April.
Laptops. Laptop prices are enticing in April, possibly due to the start of Japan's fiscal year. Also, new laptops are often introduced in spring, and the appearance of faster processors or an updated laptop line is your chance to buy a cheap laptop in April. With retailers facing a lull in notebook sales after the holidays and before the back-to-school rush, you may be able to negotiate a better notebook deal.Use your cheap cookware to cook zucchini, asparagus and artichokes.
Cookware. College graduations and weddings are in the air in April, and cookware is a welcome addition to any new home. Retailers feature promotions on pots, pans, and cooking tools just in time for bridal showers and wedding gifts. And don't forget that Mother's Day is just around the corner in May.
Food in season. Eating fruits and vegetables in season is a win-win - you get the best flavor and the best prices. Foods to buy in April include zucchini, asparagus, and artichokes, while warmer-weather veggies like rhubarb, lettuce, mushrooms, and spring peas start showing up in markets. Fruits like limes, oranges, pineapple, and mango also are in full bloom.
Repurposed Goods. Keep in mind that spring cleaning yields loads of donations to thrift stores, so take a break from your own chores to check out the new selections of secondhand clothing, home decor, and other deals. Smart thrift store shopping tips include buying off-season for the best selection and being prepared to try on clothing. Vintage clothing is always in style, and thrift stores are excellent sources of cheap home decoration.

Things Not to Buy in April. As with most months, there are a few "don't buy" items in April. With spring cleaning on everyone's mind, it's perhaps not surprising that deals on vacuum cleaners are sparse; last month we noted that November is the best time to buy a vacuum. April is also not the best time to buy a grill. Although outdoor temperatures are climbing and you may start feeling the itch to grill, waiting until July or August will pay off. Also hold off on office furniture. According to Deal News, May and June are better times to outfit the office with new furniture and supplies.
