Family Road Trips: Tech Ideas to Keep Everyone Happy

Road trips can either be a fun family adventure or a long, rough ride with the kids. I prefer the first option, so I turned to Yahoo! Upgrade Your Life host Becky Worley for her combination of tech expertise and plain old mom ingenuity.

She showed me how to pack the car for success, plan the perfect route and then keep the kids happy on the road. From GPS tips and kid-friendly tech tools to fun products like the Trunki ride-on suitcase, Becky had us covered.

First thing is to make sure you don't go anywhere in a Prius.

the seatbelt on the middle child is incorrect. It should never be up by her throat but across her chest.

That was also my first thought when I saw the picture. In an accident, that middle child could be decapitated!

Agreed. Most things they brought up were detrimental to family interaction. The electric cooler to plug in to the back outlets on my Dodge Grand Caravan, however, does sound like a good tip.

Right. Kids HAVE TO BE ENTERTAINED AT ALL TIMES! When I went on a road trip with my parents, if I complained about something, my father turned around and smacked me in the head. End of complaints.

Rule in our family, no tech toys while driving. We talk, sing, invent games, and mostly enjoy our time together. Developing A.D.D isn't a priority in our family.

You can't "develop" ADD. It's something people are born with. Tech toys are not proven to damage attn span, cause impulsivity etc. See the Diagnostic and statistical Manual of Mental Disorders for more details.

Parents should encourage games and books which make children imagine and let their minds grow, not electronic gadgets which have all the imagination pre-programmed.

This is kind of a waste of time with the price of GAS. I don't think there will be to many road trips.

So road trips are only for the rich? My car has none of the fancy gadgets and we can't afford the newest electronic thing! this was completely useless! Sad- we are taking a long road trip and I could have used some tips!!!
