Do you Yamuna? Not long ago, I took part in a yoga class that utilized a tool known as a Yamuna Ball. I was instantly hooked by its convenient size and amazing qualities, and a few moments after rolling my tight calves, I could instantly feel the difference. (In a lot of ways, this handy little device is like foam rolling.)
Just when I thought I had discovered the Holy Grail of post-exercise equipment, Zeel Expert Halle Clarke, who's given us such advice as how Pilates can be utilized formuscular re-patterning, injury prevention, and maintaining a healthy pregnancy, chimed in.
When asked whether she had stumbled upon any great new devices in 2012, Halle replied, "My new favorite prop is the "foot saver" by Yamuna." Yep, we were sold.
Halle goes on to explain that these plastic half-spheres improve foot function and open up the bottom of the foot, releasing the posterior fascia all the way up the back of the leg. As written by the manufacturer, they also improve gait, alignment and muscle tone, stimulate reflexology points, strengthen arches, increase range of motion, and stimulate and elongate the muscles of the calves, thighs, hips and lower back.
Adds Halle, "The prop is great for people who pronate or supinate their feet because you can release the lateral edge of the foot that gets tight."
So what are you waiting for? Yamuna products can be purchased directly from the brand's website or on Amazon, or you can check out increasingly popular Yamuna-based classes in your city. A cautionary note: Pregnant women should not use the Foot Saver.
