The Queen Elegantly Photobombed a Selfie

There is a long (by "long," we mean "few-months-long") tradition of royals crashing selfies. Kate Middleton did it. Prince William's done it solo, as well as with Prince Harry. Charles has probably done it, but whoever's selfie he crashed was probably like, "Eh, this is fine, but no need to tweet it or anything . . ." (George has yet to crash his first selfie; we hear he'll do it for no less than $500,000-which seems, if anything, too low.)

And now the Queen has joined the club.

Jayde Taylor-a member of the Australia Commonwealth Games hockey team (if you've never heard of the Commonwealth Games, check out this amusing and informative Last Week Tonight with John Oliver segment)-was taking an innocuous selfie with one of her teammates, when who should creep up behind them but the Queen of England. And she's smiling! (Apparently she has gotten over any anguish related to her morphine-positive race-horse.)

Jayde gleefully posted the shot to her Twitter account, writing, "Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie!!", adding a slew of hashtags, including "#royalty," "#sheevensmiled," and "#amazing."

Now, while this undoubtedly qualifies as a selfie, there is some controversy as to whether or not this meets the definition of "photobombing," as it appears the two women may have been aware the Queen was in their shot (which would likely classify it as a "three-person selfie" rather than a "photobombed two-person selfie"). But, you know, let's not quibble over the semantics of photobombing, and instead just revel in the Queen's sunny disposition, the two hockey players' ebullience, and the wonders of technology that enable us to share in it.
