I have a feeling it's a direct result of growing up in the Northeast along the Great Lakes that makes me such a fan of preppy, cottage style. Or maybe it's the nostalgia of remembering being a kid and going for family trips in the Adirondack Mountains and renting lakeside cabins in the summer that makes me love this look.
Now as an adult, my mother owns a lake house and decorating the bedrooms and the little guest house out back has become a favorite pastime of ours. To me the look is defined by colorful quilts, light walls, bare floors and loads of natural light and breezes floating in off the water. And really, who doesn't want their home to feel like a permanent vacation spot? I know I do!
