Successful Holiday Party Hosting

Hosting a holiday party this year? Want to make it a memorable event? Here are a few pointers to make your holiday celebration one that party goers will be talking about for months afterwards.

If the weather is nice, consider having your party outdoors. Snow fun is not just for children. In areas where snow is abundant your guests can have lots of fun participating in snowball fights and snowman building contests. Build a fire to roast marshmallows and serve plenty of hot chocolate. Be sure to alert you guest to dress warm. This is also a good event for holding an ugly scarf contest.

Nothing says holiday traditions like food and song. At your holiday party server traditional holiday dishes such as eggnog, steamed puddings and gingerbread cookies. Once folks have a couple glasses of eggnog they are sure go join in the singing of holiday favorites such as "Silent Night" and "White Christmas."

Theme parties are very popular today, espeical the ugly sweaters and hats. If you want to keep with a theme but are tired of the same ones year after year, try some new ideas such as having guests wear a piece of lighted holiday jewelery. Maybe everyone could come as snowmen, with white clothing, a scarf and top hat. Be creative, but keep it simple.

As for any party, be sure to have designated drivers for those guests that have a little too much holiday cheer. Seek volunteers ahead of time, maybe when invitations are initiated, or have the phone number of a cab service nearby for a quick call.
