Baby Lips? You Better Believe It

I never thought of myself as cynical or even skeptical, but when it comes to getting results from beauty products, I don't hold my breath. Perhaps this is just me, but when perusing the beauty section and scanning the descriptions of different creams and potions I find that the more claims that a beauty product makes, the more skeptical I become. Especially if it's of the bargain brand ilk, really it's going to do all that and it's only $8.99, doubtful.

When I received Maybelline's new lip restoring balm, Baby Lips, I glanced at the hefty claims on the product and scoffed. All this and it's only $3.99, we'll see about that. So what does the product claim to do? Baby Lips promises immediate results with lips looking smoother and more supple. Lasting lip hydration for up to 8 hours. Visibly repaired lips that are less rough, more moisturized, smoother and more supple after 4 weeks of use.

I tested the tinted balm version of Baby Lips in Cherry Me, which is housed in the fun, orange tube, a nice complement to the cherry red stick. When I first swiped it on my lips, I turned to my mom to show her the effect, her immediate response was "oh did all that color come from that little balm". I looked in the mirror my lips were a pleasant strawberry pink shade, I was pretty impressed with the amount of color delivered on single swipe of balm. Baby Lips states that it provides eight hours of moisture, but I found that I needed to apply every hour or so to keep my pucker supple. I did see immediate results promised in the form of, soft, smooth and supple lips with a hit of color.

Having used the product for about four weeks I can verify that I have certainly seen less chapping on my lips, but as far as complete lip renewal, not yet. I have always had very line-y, small lips (think Clara Bow) so for them to be completely smooth would be an impossible task (without cosmetic surgery). I do appreciated the smooth texture, the subtle cherry tint and smell and the SPF protection in this lip balm. The balm has been an indispensable lip moisturizer, with the added glamour of sweet pink tint, as the temperatures continue to drop. For the $3.99 price tag this definitely delivers and I recommend giving it a go (just don't expect four week miracles).
