I've been looking for an alternative to butter as a spread during mealtimes, and I think I discovered the perfect solution: Country Crock Simply Delicious. It's rich and creamy, just a little bit sweet, and made with real yogurt and canola oil. It was an absolute hit tonight with my family.
When I cook a big pot of hearty chili, I usually serve cornbread as a side dish. Most of the time, the kids politely decline. Tonight, however, I spread the cornbread with Country Crock Simply Delicious instead of butter.
It made an appealing presentation as the spread softened on the steaming cornbread. Unlike butter or other spreads, it didn't separate or leave a greasy, runny mess; in short, it was the perfect accompaniment to my family's favorite meal. It didn't tear or crumble the bread as it spread, and I got nice, even coverage. Right away, my husband responded with, "Hey, this is pretty tasty!"
The real test came when my pickiest eater - my oldest child - decided he wanted to try it. Why? "It smells so good!" I practically cheered when he announced he wanted to try it on a bagel for breakfast tomorrow.
We made short work of our dinner tonight. Everyone wanted to know if I'd done something different with my cornbread recipe, because they kept asking for more.
The secret wasn't in the bread at all, it was what I put on top of it. I'm especially pleased with Country Crock Simply Delicious because I want to make sure we're eating right. The fact that this product is made with real yogurt gives me even more reason to add it to my shopping list.
It's good food that works for the way my family eats, and it's good for me because I've got to watch how I eat. I'm trying to cut down on fat and increase the amount of protein in my diet, and this is a good way to do that without sacrificing taste or quality.Content by Kimberly Morgan.
