Happy New Year DACED Friends,
Our first DACED meeting of 2012 is this week, I hope to see many of you there as we greet Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez to our club.
We held our last regular membership meeting in November, and so much has happened since then. Not just the holidays, the changes of the seasons, and the birth of a New Year, But so much in our nation and our state. From the serious business of Redistricting here in Texas, to the ridiculous sideshow that is the race for the GOP Presidential nomination, we have so much to talk about. Times like these is when we really appreciate belonging to a group like ours so that we can talk about these topics before our heads blow-up from the pressure!
Now, let me move along and speak about a few things.
This month we marked MLK Day. In Dallas and surrounding communities many events were held to Honor the memory of Rev. Dr. King. Our club had a presence in two local events, first being the Garland NAACP MLK Day Parade where we walked with the GADC and several other Democrats and Candidates. Then in Balch Springs where a traditional March was held, and a celebration at the Civic Center occurred. At this event, we had members of the Rowlett Club participate. Fortunately, at each of these events, we did not have to contend with any runaway horses.
Speaking of Parades, the Mesquite Rodeo Parade will be held on March 31. As we do each year, our club will have an entry. All Democrats and Democratic candidates are welcomed to walk with us. At this parade we will be giving our bags containing literature. We will be making up 1000 bags. Any candidates that would like to have their material included, or would like to donate candy, or Both Please get it to me as soon as you can, - no later than one week before the parade would be great.
On January 12th your club's Executive committee met for it's first meeting of 2012. Overall discussion was about this upcoming year.
I would also like to mention that since this is January, annual club dues are now Due, they are a minimum of $12.00. But if you insist, we'll take more than that. Thank you.
This past Saturday, Fr. TX State Rep. and current HD 107 Candidate Carol Kent joined us for coffee and conversation at Panera Bread during our weekly Democratic Social. It was great having her there, and I'm sorry that I missed her. But, I'm told everyone had a great time and I hope that we'll be seeing her more as the year progresses.
Do you know what Go Run is? Go Run is a White House Project, a Political Leadership Training course for women thinking of being a candidate one day. It is being held in Dallas Feb 17-19 The training aims to demystify the political process and inspire a richly diverse group of women into the leadership pipeline. Go Run provides the nuts and bolts of running for political office by focusing on areas like communications, fundraising, and campaigning - skills you can use in your work and in your community up to the day you decide to run!

And Don't forget that President Obama gives his Annual State of the Union Address tomorrow night. I look forward to hearing what he has to say. Then maybe I'll catch the two comedy specials that follow him.
One last item, Elizabeth Walley will not be with us at this months' meeting. Her husband Michael, will be having hip surgery. I hope all goes well with the procedure. Please keep Micheal & Elizabeth in your thoughts and prayers
