What is your greatest asset? Do you know that you possess an asset that truly has magical power in it? This power is truly the "miracle formula" in life and it is contained in our consciousness. Your greatest asset is your mind and this magical power I speak of is your power to consciously choose what you are thinking.
Quite often we find ourselves with a never-ending stream of thoughts going through our mind. These trains of thought gain more control as we endlessly repeat them over and over again. These thoughts become the reality we experience.
You will change your experience in life when you learn to change what you focus on and what you think about. Disharmony in your thinking creates disharmony in your being. Disharmony in your being creates disharmony in your life. There is a quote from ACIM that says, "You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think."
The truth is that very often we don't think. Very little of our mental activity could actually be called thinking. Most often what is happening is that your thoughts are thinking you! It is the constant ramble of noise in your head, the constant flow of nonsensical opinions, judgments, complaints and those dreaded comparisons that waft through our semi-conscious mind. That is the function and the role of the ego. The ego is always comparing this with that. What is better? Why don't I have that? I want what they have. It is endless. Endless! This is not living a spiritual life! You are a slave to your thoughts when your thoughts are thinking you. You can live a higher way.
What do I mean by, "Your thoughts are thinking you"? This happens every time you are not conscious of what is going through your mind. Or when you become conscious of it and do not intentionally redirect your thinking to a higher level of consciousness. How many of you have caught yourself in some form of complaining, negativity or gossip? And then you think to yourself, "Oh I really shouldn't be engaged in this. I realize my thoughts are prayers…." But your thoughts just keep keeping on, and more often than not, your mouth follows along. You cannot have a positive life without having a positive mind. Free your mind! Think consciously.
Dr. Brene Brown of the University of Texas teaches from her research that we are the most overweight, overmedicated, addicted generation in history. We try to numb our pain and suffering with these external remedies, that only serve to increase our pain and suffering. What if we change our paradigm a bit and look at the fact that we are addicted to our pain and suffering! What a radical notion! We think there is something "out there" that is causing our suffering but in fact it is out repeated, habitual focus and thinking that causes our pain and suffering. Do you know what a repeated, habitual pattern is called? It is called an addiction. So in order to live this first principle of Pray without ceasing, you have to confront your own personal addiction to your pain and suffering. That's right, addiction!
An addiction is something that you do repeatedly over time, which becomes habitual, and causes difficulty or pain. That is often what your unconscious thinking does when your mind is filled with stress, worry and overwhelm. To master the power of your greatest asset, learn to think consciously and to consciously CHOOSE YOUR THOUGHTS. In this way, you will eventually give up your addiction to your pain and suffering and begin leading a life of peace and joy.
Don't underestimate the power of thought. Thoughts have power, unlimited power - creative power, and if you succeed in training your mind to work for you and not against you, you will find happiness, create peace and experience joy. As James Allen said it, "As you think, you travel, and as you love, you attract. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."
