He Lost a Bet, but He Won a Date!

Andrew Wilcox never loses to his younger brother Ben in basketball, except for that one time he made a bet. About a month ago, the 24-year-old in Provo, Utah challenged his sibling to a round of one-on-one, noting that the loser would have to stand on a busy intersection and dance for a half hour. Turns out, Andrew was the loser.

Playing the best out of three, Ben, 22, won every single basketball game. Thus, Andrew found himself booty-popping, flipping and break dancing on a cement island downtown, as documented in a YouTube video going viral this week.

"I don't know what happened," Andrew tells the Good News Blog. "Ben has never done that before. Maybe because he realized he would be dancing."

For whatever the reason, Andrew created a stage on the corner of Bull Dog and State Street in Provo, dancing to the tunes Ben selected as part of the deal. The soundtrack ranged from Carly Rae Jepson, to the Spice Girls, to Psy's hit "Gangnam Style."

Andrew says people driving by honked their horns or cheered. One driver pulled over and asked what was going on.

"I was nervous and embarrassed, but I had adrenaline running," Andrew recalls. "I was dancing by myself then this girl came out, who worked at a mechanic shop… I had never met her before, other than just telling the mechanic I'd be dancing on the corner. She ran out and started dancing with me, and it was kind of a validating thing. I felt more confident."

Ah yes, the girl. Jacqueline Izatt, who's in her late teens, joined Andrew on the street, and the two threw an all-out dance fest, turning an otherwise average intersection into a block party.

The dancing duo made such a perfect pair that friends and thousands of viewers who've watched the post have suggested to Andrew, a student at Brigham Young University, that he take his new friend out on a date. He explained that while neither of them felt an initial spark, they've agreed to go to dinner.

"When I asked her out, I said the reason I'm asking is because 15,000 people have told me to," Andrew says. "And she responded saying, 'The reason I'm going is because 15,000 people have told me to.'"

It sounds like a romantic comedy waiting to happen. As for the new-found fame, Andrew says he's pleased with the response.

He adds, "I had the hope something big would come of it… I didn't expect the Ellen DeGeneres Show to be calling me."
