October DACED General Membership Meeting is Today 10-26-11

Hello DACED Friends,

Today we will be holding our general Membership meeting for the month of October. Our program will be a discussion on the Proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments, which an election will be held for on November 8.

It's been an active month since we last convened.

Let's start off with the biggest event that happened, on October 4th President Obama visited our community for the first time. He came and spoke to the students of Eastfield College about the work he has been doing for the people of our nation, and the importance of creating Jobs for everyone who wants one. Speaking about the need for Congress to pass the American Jobs Act and how he needs our help in getting that accomplished. Many of our friends and club members attended his speech and I hope those of you who did will share your experience with the rest of us.

On October 15th, during our morning Democratic Social at Panera Bread, we were visited by Texas Democratic Senate Candidate, Gen. Ricardo Sanchez. The General visited with us for over an hour. He engaged us personally one-on-one, as well as a group. Talking and answering questions on a variety of subjects ranging from immigration & Cancer research, to the occupy Wall Street movement & his experience serving in Iraq. I want to thank him for taking the time to meet us, and invite him to come back soon.

At our September meeting, we agreed to participate in the 16th Annual Mesquite Taste & Trade being held November 1st at the Mesquite Rodeo Exhibition hall. With help from clubmember Wesley Johnson, we will have a booth. The event runs from 4pm to 8pm, so we'll be there from 2pm to set-up and leave by 9pm. Everyone who wants to help please speak with me or Fernando. This is not a free event, they only provide 2 free passes to this event, sorry about that. Tickets are $12.oo This yearly event provides our club with one of the best opportunities to be seen and heard, in the 4 hours the event runs, we'll be able to interact with around 2000 people. This will be a great opportunity for candidates to meet voters and get petitions signed.

As I had mentioned above, our program will be a discussion on the Proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments.
There are 10 propositions to be decided on. Early voting on these has already begun. In this email, I have attach. information about the proposed Amendments.

Finally, Next month we will be meeting on the 3rd Wednesday, November 16. That's only 3 weeks away. We are meeting early because of the start of the holiday season. This will be our last General membership meeting of 2011. But we will continue to hold events, our weekly Democratic Social, and our Club Holiday Party on December 3. At this meeting, we will be holding Club Elections. There is no meeting in December.

The next General membership meeting will be on January 25, 2012 and our Speaker will be Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.
