One-hit Wonders, Part 2: Dance Songs

These uptempo hits were responsible for creating dance moves, dance crazes, even a movie and a lawsuit. So bust out your dancin' shoes and lets visit some more memorable one-hit wonders.

    1) Los del Rio - "The Macarena"
This dance-craze tune sat comfortably at the top of the charts for 14 weeks and sold over 4 million copies and then disappeared from whence it came.

    2) Aqua - "Barbie Girl"
Mattel sued the band for tainting Barbie's rep, referring to her as a "blonde bimbo," but the case was dismissed. The should have realized this Euro-hit was a fluke that would go away on it's own.

    3) Deee-lite - "Groove is in the Heart"
This might actually be one of the best songs ever. Apparently Deee-lite had six #1 dance songs, but they must have been way less memorable without the slide-whistle.

    4) Van McCoy - "The Hustle"
This dude was a producer, songwriter and orchestra conductor, but that all paled in comparison to his disco smash.

    5) Haddaway - "What Is Love"
While recorded in the early 90s, it wasn't until SNL took notice and included the track in A Night at the Roxbury that this song really blew up. Now we have trouble separating the two entities.

    6) Indeep - "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life"
A song about a girl being bored until a DJ played a fresh track to get the night popping. Hey, it was only ONE song.

    7) Billy Ray Cyrus - "Achy Breaky Heart"
C'mon everybody let's do the tush push!

    8) Vicki Sue Robinson - "Turn the Beat Around"
Huge song, but it was her only song. And you probably thought Gloria Estefan wrote it. Sad, isn't it.

    9) CeCe Peniston - "Finally"
A great lady anthem about meeting Mr. Right at long last. Too bad songs like this are once in a lifetime as well.

    10) The Weather Girls - "It's Raining Men"
Or maybe guys are everywhere? We don't know what to believe anymore. Except that this song is kinda silly.

    Honorable mentions:
    Marcia Griffiths - Electric Boogie
    Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown
Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song
Eifel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee)
    Black Box - Everybody, Everybody
Tom Tom Club - Genius of Love
Shannon - Let the Music Play
The Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom
Real to Reel - I Like to Move It
Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
