They make for the perfect passed dessert.
With the holidays on the horizon, my sister and I were excited to spend an evening together sampling new dessert recipes that we could share with our family this year. Triple-chocolate cookie balls were a simple, no-bake delight that we enjoyed making together, devouring half of, and then sharing with the kids the next day. They look much more complicated than they actually are, and they'll be the perfect addition to your holiday party this year.
Triple-chocolate cookie balls require 1 package of Oreo cookies, ½ a cup of milk, 1 package of JELL-O chocolate instant pudding, 12-16 semi-sweet Baker's chocolate squares, 4-8 white Baker's chocolate squares, and waxed paper. You'll make approximately 40-45 cookie balls.
First Dose of Chocolate
To begin, you'll make chocolate balls using Oreo cookies, JELL-O chocolate instant pudding, and half a cup of milk. Mix the chocolate pudding and the milk together. Though you may be inclined to use a whisk, I had better luck with a spoon. The pudding is going to form a frosting-like paste, thicker than pudding and likely to get stuck in a whisk.
Once the pudding/milk mixture is well mixed, place 36 Oreo cookies in a gallon-sized plastic bag. Crush the cookies with a mallet or a rolling pin. Then pour the crushed cookies into the pudding and stir well. Form chocolate balls with this mixture, place them on a baking sheet, and freeze for approximately 10 minutes. Try not to eat too many just yet!
Second Dose of Chocolate
Once you're ready to remove the chocolate balls from the freezer, you'll need to melt 12 squares of Baker's semi-sweet chocolate. If you want to make sure to cover the cookie balls completely, you may want to go ahead and melt two entire bars (a full 16 squares) to be on the safe side. Dip each chocolate ball into the mixture, place on a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet, and then return the entire batch to the fridge until the chocolate hardens (10-20 minutes).
Third Dose of Chocolate
Use 6 squares of melted white chocolate to create the third and final chocolate of your triple-chocolate cookie balls. Use a fork or a spoon to drizzle the melted white chocolate onto the cookie balls. Again, place the tray back in the refrigerator until the chocolate has set. Remove to serve (or to eat right off the tray!).
Once they were ready, the triple-chocolate cookie balls were absolutely delicious. My sister and I only able to eat a few each--they were rich and decadent. The recipe made almost 45 cookie balls, so these bite-sized treats were perfect for snacking throughout the evening. They'd make a perfect passed dessert for a party, and your friends and family will think you spent hours preparing them!Content by Kelly Herdrich.
