It is not easy. The fashion girls folded their arms when I asked this question. Fashion director Anne Keane was blunt: "I like short suits as a statement, but I don't think they're ever appropriate for work. Unless your work is über-hipster and you wear the shorts with an ironic flair." This last bit was said with a decided ironic flair. Executive fashion director Alexis Bryan Morgan warmed to the idea-a bit. "The material's really important," she said. "You want high-quality fabrics, serious suiting tailoring. No cargo, no denim, no chino! And dress up the dressy shorts with a silky top, a belt, great shoes"-here she pointed to a pair of high-heeled Mary Janes-"no casual!"
