Brian, the brainy family dog from the TV show 'Family Guy,' with his liberal political philosophy, has an agenda that may teach us a thing or two. Whether you agree with his politics or not, you can't deny that Brian possesses some of the textbook qualities of a typical politician - a witty liberal from New England with a liking for women, booze and vacationing in the Vineyard - hmmmm?
Here are some of Brian's visions and political positions:
Brian on equality:
He is a strong believer in equal rights for all and investing in our common humanity (even though he is not technically human). Brian gets upset with society for the way it treats dogs and wants people to understand that an animal's life is just as important as a human's life.
Brian on contraception and age discrimination:
We learn that Brian is a believer in safe sex when a condom accidentally falls from his pocket while talking to his date's mom. His date stands him up, but in nondiscriminatory fashion, he takes the cougar mom on a "date" instead.
Brian on the responsibility of raising children: (season 7.16)
Upon learning of his illegitimate son, Brian exercises outstanding parenting skills and sensitivity with his delinquent son, Dillon.
Brian on gay marriage:
Brian is a supporter of gay marriage, going to extremes to prevent a gay marriage ban after his cousin Jasper comes to town and wants to get married to his Filipino boyfriend.
Brian on the opposition:
Brian does not hold back and is not afraid to show his true feelings on what the opposing political party may symbolize.
Criticisms of Brian:
Like many politicians, Brian does not escape the criticism of his peers. We see that Brian's track record may not be squeaky clean when Brian's companion, Quagmire, calls him out on his disloyalty to friends, his poor fathering, and his alcoholism. Not to mention, he certainly has a history of dating a number of less than intelligent women. Would this be enough to keep him out of office should he choose to run? Hasn't been much a problem in the past, that's for sure!
