Help me, Jillian! Motivation tips from The Biggest Loser Trainer

To find more willpower when reserves run low, we consulted the guru we'd all love to have on speed dial: Jillian Michaels. (OK, we do have her on speed dial; she's now a contributing editor.) Channel her voice when you're flagging.

Excuse "I have zero time to exercise!"

Jillian says I feel your pain-my life is crazy, too. But good-for-you habits are the last thing that should go. If you don't take care of yourself, you'll have less energy to be that supportive person in your loved ones' lives. I tell working moms to ask for help. It used to take a village to raise kids; you can't do it on your own.

    Get a motivation makeover!

Excuse "Who can afford a gym and fresh produce? Not me."

Jillian says Commit to a $100 investment in 10 fitness DVDs and you'll have enough variety for six months at least. You can do a whole workout-sit-ups, jumping jacks, squats-without any equipment. And imagine the cost of taking diabetes meds for the rest of your life-much more than the extra $50 a month you should spend on veggies and fish.

    Quiz: What's your motivation personality?

Excuse "I can't get up early to work out, and I'm tired at night."

Jillian says When the alarm goes off, ask yourself, "Will going back to sleep help me reach my greater goal?" If the workout isn't attached to a larger reason-like having confidence to get back into the dating game-it won't stick.

    Train with Jillian Michaels!

Excuse "I've hit a plateau; I give up."

Jillian says Get selfish! Don't think you're asking too much of the world or of yourself. Push through by believing the new, improved you is your destiny. There's no reason you can't have it all.

Basically, having a motivation is great, without it you really cant find it in you to actually get you're a** up and workout. But great advice from me to you, is basically limit yourself to junk food, eat right, workout daily, even walking helps improve not only your weight, but most of all your health. * Remember, it's you who lives in that body, take care of it *

Giving up gluten gave me more energy to train! I’ve lost over 150 pounds after discovering I had a gluten intolerance! I weighed almost 400 pounds and was told I’d never get it off without the help of lap band surgery. Searching alternatives, I discovered the gluten issue. I gave up wheat, oats and barley and lost almost 80 pounds right away. This success led to more progress and I am currently chipping away at the remaining weight. My new book, Fat Boxing, A Guide to Weight Loss explains the simple process and philosophy I used. If you want to learn more, I write a weight loss article for Examiner.com where you can view my “report card”.

Hey Margaritas, KerryQ is right. Try those video workouts. Again mini work-outs are effective. It is consistency that is key. Do pay attention to your body though. If there are days when you feel that you really can't do it, then don't but watch what you intake food wise. I hope you are checking in regularly with your physician. It is hard but I encourage you to stick with a program that is designed for your body. Everyone is not built the same. I have Lupus. To look at me you couldn't tell. (I am not an avatar :))I sometimes don't eat the right thing, but 90% of the time I do. I realize in order to be healthy I have to work out. Pilates is great for the joints. I have a sweet toothe too. Man do I. I limit it. They do have great sugar free stuff out there. Hang in there girl. Oh and moderation, unless you are training for a triatholon, extreme exertion is not necessary.

I don't care what she says, sometimes there are times where you are just too tired. You also have to think about your overall health, like if you get up very early you also have to go to bed early and going out late at night to work out or even after working all day is not an option. But you do have to make time, it also depends on what you do, like if you run you need to go when you know it's safest. If your going to the gym it's different because you can go almost anytime.

To margaritascv: You mean loosing life or limb is not enough motivation for you? Diabetes runs on both sides of my family and after losing my grandpa (who had to have both legs amputated) and my aunt (who was blind) to that terrible disease I decided to do something. It's not fun, it's not easy but it's something you have to do. Find a friend that will go to the gym with you. Set up a reward system for reaching goals. I use thedailyplate.com to track my daily food and exercise. You have to just find the strength and willpower within. You are the only one that can find the motivation to do what needs to be done.

I do a lot of exercise videos. There is one out there for everyone. The trick is just to find what works for you. Like dancing, don't have much time? Check out the 10 minute Solution DVDs. Everyone can find 10 minutes, right? They have pilates and yoga, and kickboxing, if dancing isn't your thing. I use Jillian's 30 Day Shred on a frequent basis, just because it is only 20 minutes long. I watch one less tv show a day, no big deal. And, unlike a gym, you only pay for a video once- no commitment moneywise.

She would need to call me up and say, "Dammit, get off your butt and get it to the gym before you need your own zip code!"
Or, "Do you REALLY think you can snag a hot guy with that pint of Ben and Jerry's I see on your thighs?" Or, "Would YOU have sex with you looking like that?"
(I'm just kidding, but these are all things are what I tell myself, and it still doesn't work.) I will try to be nicer and less verbally abusive with myself and see if that works.

I worked out at Planet Fitness for a couple of years. Great gym, really cheap. I was only paying $10 a month but I think the rate is $15 a month now. Still super cheap though. Good, basic gym. No frills or classes but nice, new equipment. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive place to work out.

I go to planet fitness everyday after work...no reason to not go, so cheap and convenient...most facilities are open really early and really late..so stop being lazy and get to the gym!

These are pretty decent tips. I find that mixing up your work-outs help a great deal. I think if you stay committed and don't beat yourself up when you do fall off. Just get back on track. Mini work -outs do work. It is the consistency of the plan.

I love biggest loser and Jillian Michaels. I got all the DVDs and books for some tips here: http://www.computersncs.com/rd_p?skipRedirect=1&p=191614&t=9544&a=26332-jillianmichaels&c=&gift=27754

A few of my tips? Instead of parking close to a building, park far away so you walk more, and take the stairs instead of the elevator. And instead of drinking coffee in the morning, drink some water and have fruit (banana)

In my opinion you are mistaken. I can defend the position. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.
