One of the most overlooked ways to save money, the use of Price Adjustments. Retailers fluctuate their prices constantly, so an item you just bought on sale is very likely to drop in price perhaps even a couple of times over the next few weeks. For items you bought at a store, you have to check in-store to see if the prices dropped. For online purchases you can use a free service from Yairoo.com All a shopper needs to do is forward the receipt email for an online purchase to receipts@yairoo.com and the service will track the prices and alert you for additional price drops, and once you receive an alert you just contact the retailer and get you price adjustment. This is money you already spent going back into your pocket.

I really miss back to school shopping, makes me want to go back to college. ;)

Office Max and Office Depot are a joke. Students can get all of their necessary supplies at Wal-Mart for a fraction of what they'd pay elsewhere. Guess they're giving the stuff away in order to get you to buy something else...

I like the Apple deal! Also good to know about Barnes; never really thought about them for BTS supplies!

I wonder how the list was made when it excludes the two best and most popular back to school stores/sites STAPLES and WALMART

Interesting! Not what I would have expected, since Target is at the top of my list, but now I'm definitely heading over to an Apple store.

Ahh the three words that strikes fear in the hearts of little tykes! "Back to school!" They can bring the most hardened tantrum thrower out of a slobbering fit...

I agree with the person who said we need to go to school uniforms.

How about this, too - kids keep up with their supplies from last year, learn to take care of them, and we don't fill up the land-fills with still good markers, half used up notebooks, etc. just to start every year with everything shiny and new?? Talk about saving money - stop replacing everything every year!

      RE: Barnes & Noble section
If you're going to be using a dictionary to find out how words are supposed to be used, don't get a Merrriam-Websters. Get an American Heritage, Oxford, Random House, or just about anything else. Merriam-Webster's editorial staff is committed to the "descriptive" theory of lexicography, which presents the language as it's used, in all its vulgarity. Prescriptive dictionaries tell you about the proper use of words. That's the theory anyway. The reality is worse. Karl Marx hated abstract thinking, so the Merriam-Webster's staff omits the more positive senses of the word "abstract" because of their Marxist bias. Most people would never imagine that anyone would allow their political sentiments to distort a freaking DICTIONARY, but if you take an unabridged Merriam-Webster's and compare it with an unabridged American Heritage or Osford English Dictionary, you can see the difference in the definitions of "abstract" for yourself. there are plenty of other differences, too, but when you're writing for people who want to see proper English, why bother with a politicized dictionary?

I spent a grand total of approximately $55 plus tax for all the following just by watching the Sunday papers for the office supply store sales. We were able to fill school supply lists for 6 homeless children and donated the remainder of our supplies to our local Board of Education.
78 10 packs of pens; 50 bottles of glue; 10 4 packs of glue sticks; 50 packs of cap erasers; 29 boxes of 24 count crayons; 24 1 subject notebooks; 4 2 packs of Sharpies; 35 paper folders with prongs; 68 packs of filler paper; 37 packs of 3x5 cards; 41 packs of pencils; 20 plastic, prong, pocket folders; 6 packs of dry erase markers, 12 pencil sharpeners; 8 wooden rulers; 50 composition books; 4 packs of dividers; 4 packs of markers; 2 school boxes; 2 5-sub notebooks; 2 packs of 50-ct sheet protectors; 1 pair of scissors (need 2 more); 3 packs of colored pencils; and 3 6 packs of highlighters.
