Here's my attempt at creating at least one post where my favorite thing in the entire world, the almighty lip gloss, is not mentioned; in fact, I'm not going to talk lips at all. Instead, I'm introducing you to five of my other loves that are especially essential during the summer months and that are imperative to my home away from home during a vacation.1. Clearasil Acne + Marks Wash and Mask - This fast action pimple reducer is known for diminishing acne marks. I cleanse with it morning and night, remembering my decolletage and the back of my neck. As an added bonus, it doubles as an overnight mask. It contains 2% Salicylic acid and never dries out my skin. Great for the warm season because it fights the pimples that try to form after a hot days sweat.
2. Up & Up Target Brand Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Lotion - Just because I'm less ashy in the summer doesn't mean that my body can go without moisture; in fact, just the opposite. Midwest heat and humidity tends to either dry me out or oil slick me up. When I travel, I squeeze one of my travel bottles full of this silkening moisturizer and apply it liberally after I shower. My skin stays smooth all day, including my elbows, knees and backside. It's amazing how soft I am by the time I remove my clothes at night.
3. Clear Nail Polish - After years of wearing acrylics, my real nails became short, brittle and weak. Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails Clear Topcoat and Maximum Growth Daily Nail Treatment are just the lifeline they needed to stay strong. Most of the time when I travel, I apply both daily without any color polish. The finishing shine is brighter than diamonds, and we all know diamonds stand alone!
4. Silk Scarf - To maintain my healthy mane during travel, I keep a silk scarf or head-wrap on hand. Much like at home, I never lie down without securing my hair. Not only does the scarf keep my style in-tact, but it decreases the frizz and dryness and allows my style to last longer. However, it's important to note that I don't particularly recommend wearing the scarf all day, as it's good to allow the hair freedom to breathe, especially my fellow weave lovers.
5. Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque - This is the most affordable dollar store, skincare gem you'll find. It unclogs pores, softens facial lines and soothes and tones the skin. As soon as I feel a pimple coming or get a rise in my skin, I squeeze out a small amount of this gel-like liquid and apply it either to my entire face or just to the problem areas. The next morning those pimples, white heads, blackheads are MIA, dried out to the core. Also, because it works so fast, it hardly leaves any marks on my skin.
Are any of my essentials part of your summer must-have kit?
