Like many of you, I get swept up in the product specials typical of the holiday season and my vanity table (and skin) is begging for mercy. You know the specials I'm talking about. Department store shopping for a loved one's gift begins innocently enough, until I encounter a deal that I can't resist. Here's how they get me, "Free gift with purchase!" or "Buy the entire set and save." Now I've got no space on the bathroom counter, dresser or vanity table and I've got a complicated beauty routine.
With all these products like spot removers, skin-plumping lotions and line fillers, my daily skin care routine takes a bit longer than it should. It's time to simplify. After a quick examination of my overflowing beauty supply assortment, I can see some product overlaps. That's where I've decided to start. For example, do I really need three eye creams? What about these two toners? Okay, I'm cutting back on steps and products! Here's my plan to simplify my beauty routine.
Backing down on the facials here! Besides having too many products, I spend too much time using them. I know some beauty companies suggest that we wash our face twice a day, once you wake up and the second time before you head to bed but is that really necessary. I am too dry for that! I've simplified my beauty routine with one facial cleansing at night. That's going to cut down on some mirror time.
I'm replacing multiple products with a tinted moisturized that contains SPF. By the time you moisturize, allow for drying time, apply sunscreen and allow for drying time then apply foundation, you've taken up a few minutes. I'm simplified this part of my beauty routine. I've found a facial bronzer that moisturizes and protects. That's brilliant!
Blow dry-and style. Ugh! One thing I do have plenty of is frizz control products. My long hair loves to puff up at the ends, even after I straighten it or add curls. Blow drying and styling my hair everyday (or two) really gobbles up my time. I've invested in Rowenta's Auto Sensor Dryer. Here's the blurb that caught my attention, "Tourmaline-boosted ceramic system naturally produces non-damaging infrared ionic heat." Now I can get the style I want during the blow dry!
I'm going minimalist with eye-popping mascara. Do I really need seven eyeliners rolling around my vanity or the bottom of my purse? Not really. For spring (I'm getting started early) I'm going to try the minimalist eye look. I've purchased L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes but any volumizing mascara will probably do. Here's what you can do to get an eyeliner plus mascara look: focus on getting the product at the base of your lashes, not just the tips. Use a dab of black eyeshadow if you want a smoky upper lash.
Introducing my dual purpose color products.Thankfully, my skin looks great with pinks, peaches and bronze colors. I've got some great products that do double duty as lip and cheek color. Just a touch on the cheeks and a light pat on the eyelids. Voila!
So there you have it -- my plan to simplify my beauty routine. Of course, I'm not tossing away those cool products, I'll just save them for when I have a bit more time, like on the weekends. Do you have plans to simplify your beauty program this year?
