As of professional makeup artist by trade, I'm often teased and even questioned as to why I rarely wear a full face of makeup. My usual answer: "all that hullaballoo just isn't necessary"; I know, weird, right?
However, when I'm asked why my lips are always so shiny….my favorite answer…"Lipgloss baby, NEVER leave home without it!" Lipgloss is such a necessity in my life that at any given time I'm harboring over five different kinds in my makeup bag. From the basic, just coating my lips, to the slightly sheen-ed for those subtle, yet make me feel even prettier days, to the outrageous, petroleum doused, attention getting, paparazzi seeking, lip smacking and thinking I'm cute moments. Either way, my chops will always be my most sexy!
My routine? "Have at it!" Applying right from the tube, I start from the inside of the lips to the outer corners; cleaning up the perimeter with a Q-tip or napkin. On my super risqué' days when I crave attention, I'll line my lips first with a flesh toned liner, inwardly blending with my fingers or a lip brush then adding gloss to the entire lip and a highlighting gloss smack dab in the middle of the bottom lip. When finished, I walk outside and watch the sun bounce off that thang (my lips) so heavy it's illegal. Following these instructions will have you surrounded by compliments, even from children…and that's a fact!
My second necessity is mascara or muh-scaura as pronounced by the Brit's. Ranking second to gloss only because it's not my daily requirement, mascara tends to be one of those beauty accessories that can literally change the game in mere seconds. Eyes go from dull to bold, widened, defined and sultry even in the daytime. With a napkin, carefully wipe away any excess product from the wand; began underneath at the root of the lash extending upward and outward repeat on the top. For maximum drama coat lashes 2-3 times, watching for clumps. Tip: when you begin applying on the top of the lashes go from root to tip rolling hand and wand in a curling motion which manually curls the lashes, and then lightly press the tips inward from underneath.
Lastly, my Cococare Cocoa Butter lip balm. Combined with Aloe Vera extract this balm adds a moisturizing shield that conditions and protects my lips from any harsh element that threatens them. It's also lightweight, doesn't feel waxy and works well worn alone or layered under any of my glosses. Not only for personal use, but I carry this product in my professional kit and heavily recommend it to my clients.
Mascara, lip balm and lip gloss; three of my major makeup bag must -haves; well six if you count the three other glosses I carry on top of that.
Tell me ladies, what do you keep in your makeup bag that makes you sexy?
