Beauty Guru: Summer beauty tricks I swear by

Keep your beauty routine cool this summer.Sweltering temperatures and high humidity are the unwanted hallmarks of summer in south Alabama. It's hard to look cute when your hair and makeup wilt a few minutes after an application. Beauty in the summer can be the pits! Once June rolls around, my normally dry skin takes on an uncomfortable shine and who knows where my mascara will end up! Still, I'm not strutting around poolside or hanging out at an outdoor musical festival with a naked face.

I have three summer beauty tricks that I use to keep a fresh, glowing look, no matter how hot it gets. I'm a blonde (by choice) with hazel eyes and an olive skin tone but these tips will work for anyone.

First, I hide the blush and reach for a dual or triple-shade bronzer instead. A warm, sunny glow helps me fake a tan while giving me a natural, healthy look. I don't see the point in wearing noticeable blush when I'm trying to look calm, cool and collected. To make sure I get an even, bronze application without the added blush, I purchase a brand new makeup brush; preferably one with a wide fat brush head. I sweep over the bronzing powder and swirl it lightly on my cheek apples. Wa La! I love this easy summer trick.

My next warm weather beauty secret is a new one -- it is a dry vitamin oil by Votre Vu. I love showing off my legs during the hot, hazy days of summer but after shaving or even swimming, my skin can dry out quickly. A spritz of vitamin oil on exposed skin soothes the dryness and makes my body look nurtured but not greasy. If my sweetheart decides to touch my legs, (I love it when that happens) he won't be turned off by getting a handful of oil. A botanical-based vitamin spray like the one I use from Vu is good for me too. It makes me feel good to know I'm doing something healthy for me.

I lighten up on the eyeliner. I'm never going to trade in my waterproof black mascara but rolling on the black eyeliner is just too much for summer - at least for me. I don't like looking like an ancient Egyptian with rings of kohl around my eyes. I tuck those goodies away for fall and pick up an indigo, purple or jade eyeliner. I get a bit of color without getting a heavy eye makeup look. I make my eyes really "pop" by rolling white eyeliner on the rim of the lower lid. Instant eye lift!

I hope these tips help you look your best this summer. What secrets do you use to be a hot summer beauty?
