You can breathe easy at Hale Organic Salon

Between lead in lipstick and formaldehyde in hair treatments, the beauty industry isn't as glamorous as we'd hope, but one salon in New York City is hoping to clear the air, so to speak. When you walk into Hale Organic Salon in Tribeca you'll immediately notice it's different from every other beauty parlor--instead of smelling like hairspray, dye, and nail polish the air smells... clean!

The newly-opened environmentally friendly salon was founded by Joe Murray, formerly of John Masters Organics Salon in Soho, and is part of the natural hair salon movement. Essentially they use clean beauty brands, like Schwarzkopf's Essensity hair dye, that lack ammonia, artificial fragrance, and parabens. "Because we're not tied to a product line, I can go as clean as I want," Murray told Well and Good NYC. "Right now I'm talking to a woman who's making products in her kitchen, and I'd consider stocking those if they're also effective."

While the quest for more clean brands continues, unfortunatel

    • Mad Men's second collection with Banana Republic is hitting stores next week, but that's not all the trend-setting show is inspiring. Finally, the AMC drama will have a makeup line, and to top it off, Estee Lauder took the bait!

"We've always felt like there's a connection between Mad Men and the Estee Lauder brand and Estee herself; the 60s were our heyday as well," Jane Hertzmark Hudis, the Global Brand President of Estee Lauder, told Style.com.

Because the cosmetics company was around in the 60s, this is not a line inspired by the 60s but was blended with the company's old practices.

The collection includes the limited-edition Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection Crème Rouge in Evening Rose and the Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection Signature Lipstick in Cherry. Both pieces come in flute gold cases with turquoise detailing on the compact.

    • Question: What smells worse than a teenage boy?

Answer: A teenage boy doused in Axe body spray.

Every time I visit my nephew, a cloud of Axe meets me at the front door. The poor boy is starting high school, which means he's growing out of the adorable kid stage, and into the acne-covered, awkwardly tall, and smelly stage.

His penchant for the awful-smelling grooming products only makes his puberty-inflicted odor worse, but he's convinced the overpowering scent will get him the ladies.

And while my impressionable nephew will probably figure out that spraying Axe or using a pheromone-infused product won't make the girls' clothes come off, a team of lawyers in San Diego is making sure he (and everyone else) knows definitively. They're filing a class action suit against Dial Corp., claiming the company is fibbing about Dial for Men Magnetic body wash's lady-luring abilities. The soap is advertised to

There aren't many things I'm an expert at. Actually, at this moment I can't think of any things, except one: I know how to extend the life of a blow-out. Before I dwell too long on this haunting discovery, let me share my secrets (and stylist Jet Rhys's excellent suggestions). After you leave the salon: 1. Keep your hands off your hair. And avoid brushing, too, adds Rhys. Handling and brushing distribute natural oils throughout your hair, which will hasten your need for a shampoo.

      2. Don't let the stylist use any styling products, and don't use any at home, either. Most stylists look at me incredulously when I say, "No product, please," but as Rhys points out, sprays and serums can attract dirt and oil.

      3. In the shower, use a fabric-lined cap. It keeps your hair drier and protects against frizz better than a plastic cap, says Rhys.

    • Secrets to minimizing your pores.

      Secrets to minimizing your pores.

Celebs and models always look so gorgeously pore-less in the photos staring out at us from their magazine covers.

      One word: Airbrushing.

Yes, they have pores just like the rest of us mere mortals. And they probably obsess about them just as much, too. But having pores is a non-negotiable part of having skin. "You need to have them because they are essential to skin function," says Jocelyn A. Lieb, M.D., of Advanced Dermatology in New Jersey.

COLUMN: Anti-Aging Products You Don't Need

Pores are the connections from your sebaceous glands and hair follicles to the surface of the skin-without those openings, hair would have no place to sprout out from and the oil that's necessary to lubricate your skin would never find its way to the surface.

Your pore size is partly a matter of genetics (so, yes, you can blame your parents!) and partly due to whatever is currently trapped inside of them. "If you have a lot of oil or dead skin cells accumulating in your pores, tha
