    The top knot trend we all grew to love last year continued to dominate red carpets in 2012. But this year the style evolved into more than just a simple twist. Celebrities added braids, super-sized it, and even included wispy sideburns with the updo. But A-listers weren't the only ones to hop on the high bun bandwagon. Sock bun how-tos have dominated Pinterest boards and Tumblrs since early January. Needless to say, we think this is one trend that isn't going anywhere any time soon. less

    We saw some unforgettable headlines in 2012.


    In June there was TomKat's split; in July the entire world cheered during London's summer Olympics; and in November we were all shocked by the devastation of super storm Sandy.

    And although beauty trends didn't exactly make the front page of most major news outlets, they were also dominating the beauty scene this year. From vampy mulberry lipsticks to tie-dyed dipped hair, the last 12 months proved that boring beauty fads were so 2011.

    Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr were loaded with nail art, statement lips, and hair bows. So much so that over-the-top looks such as diamond-encrusted manicures and supersized top knots were no longer restricted to cat walks and red carpets -- everyone was talking about these trends and all of us were trying them.
