    5 Foods for Glowing Skin

What you eat is important for your health, yes, but did you realize that what you put in your mouth can have an effect on your beauty, too? Here, we identified five foods to include in your diet for glowing skin.

    Sweet Potatoes

Keep your skin silky smooth by including sweet potatoes in your diet. They are rich in beta-carotene and, when ingested, are converted into vitamin A, a prime factor in keeping skin touchably soft, says Lisa Drayer, MA, RD, and nutritionist. Not a potato person? Carrots will do the trick, too.

    Kiwi

    Kiwi.Kiwi.

Any food with lots of vitamin C, like kiwi, oranges, and grapefruit, is a big skin saver, according to Drayer. Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis and protects against wrinkles. In a study done by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women who had a diet high in vitamin C foods had noticeably less dryness and fewer wrinkles.

    Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate.Dark chocolate. This has to be too good to be true, right? Wrong! Drayer says enjoying a small piece of dark chocolate will provide high levels of cocoa flavanols, which have been associated with softer, more hydrated skin. Notice we said small. Eating a jumbo Hershey's bar probably won't make you look or feel very good after the fact.

    Yogurt

    Yogurt.Yogurt.

Yogurt makes your skin and nails glow, according to Paula Simpson, international nutritionist and beauty expert. It's a good source of protein and has been found in clinical studies to help stimulate fat metabolism and whittle your waistline. An added bonus: Drayer says thanks to the biotin found in yogurt, it helps increase nail strength.

    Nuts and seeds.Nuts and seeds.

    Nuts and Seeds

Snack on some almonds or sunflower seeds, says Robyn Flipse, MS, RD. They contain anti-inflammatory and immunity-enhancing nutrients, including vitamin E, that help reduce skin flare-ups.

I use to work at a mental hospital years ago. One staff meeting, the doctors, the nurses, psychologists, etc., were wondering how to calm down some agitated patients; they heard this meek little voice from me: "Give them chocolate." It worked and the patients were a lot happier. Ask any woman who is in the PMS mode - chocolate works for them too.

unless the mental patient is ADD.. then chocolate makes them bounce off the walls!!

I didn't know that about ADD I heard all of that sugar and hyperactivity was a myth. I believe for myself... Everything in Moderation ... I love these tips:) This is my first day to really pay attention.

The correct term is ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Not ADD Attention Deficit Disorder. Because without the hyperactivity in there the chocolate would have no affect.

What if the amount of dark chocolate in that picture is my idea of "small"?
    • orchid88  •  6 months ago
that is true, but I also believe that is also genetic, Iam 52, but i still have a flawless skin, and that runs in the family. I eat some of those, but not always.

I can't get enough chocolate all of a sudden, when I was a young lady and when I was pregnant, I ate a lot, but that was a long time ago. I wonder what's going on, maybe my skin is making itself beautiful and supple again. I don't have any wrinkles, maybe the huge appetite for chocolate is why. Anyway, it's a good problem.

GROUND THE NUTS (using the nifty Cuisinart) if they're tough to chew and digest.

Love all of these except yogurt. Kiwi are great to put in a green smoothie ( along wiht kale, spinach, ginger, a bit of pineapple and a green apple). Nuts are wonderful for a snack or on salads. Sweet Potatoes are great for lunch - baked or cooked in microwave and topped with black bean chili. Yum! I also like to thinly slice sweet potatoes, lightly toss with olive oil, sprinkle some seasonings on them and microwave them for several minutes until they get crunchy.

I am seeing a trend in articles about food and health: eat fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, nuts, whole grains, fish, healthy fats such as olive oil, and a moderate amount of low fat beef, and avoid simple carbohydrates and trans fats.

Yes I to am a chocolate lover practically it every day. My skin is doing fine but most of all you must drink water to flush out the system proberly that is a bonus and not last but least add avacado, lemons and vegatables with vitamin C like tomatoes, red peppers in your daily diet. Trust me.
