Breaking out your fall wardrobe? According to celebrity hairstylist Gregory Alan, you should also be revamping your haircare routine.

Alan -- who's created styles for Glee stars Dianna Agron and Lea Michele -- taught us the best ways to prep our locks for chilly weather and spilled on the season's trendiest hairstyles.

Hydrate your hair: Cold weather and gusts of wind usually dry out hair, so the key prep step is to hydrate those tresses! Alan recommends using a conditioning mask, like Salon Grafix Intensive Hair Repair Masque ($8, HealthyHairNutrition.com), because it moisturizes and repairs damage from chemical treatments and styling tools without weighing your hair down or making it greasy. It'll work wonders for your hair in both fall and winter.

10 things you've been doing wrong forever

Use product: Your hairstyle is only as strong as the stuff that's in it. If you don't give it any support, it will fall apart before the wind or rain even hits it. So before you style your hair, apply a pomade or shaping spray for hold. Alan likes Blowpro Mane Tame Soft Pomade ($22, Ulta.com), which adds shine while controlling and defining your style.

Accessorize: When in doubt, accessorize! Use the season's hottest accessories to keep your hair under control. This fall, try incorporating headbands, wraps and headscarves. If you're going for a more subtle approach, use bow clips or embellished pins.

Braid it out: Braids are the statement hairstyle of fall, and (lucky for us) they're versatile. Try them at the office, the gym or even happy hour. To check out some of our favorite braid tutorials, visit TheBlush.com.
