Over the last week, four Chinese women have been hospitalized with septic shock after receiving a controversial cosmetic treatment that eventually cost one unlucky woman her life.
The 46-year-old passed away one week after undergoing DC-CIK therapy, a highly-risky procedure that's used as a last resort for terminal patients with metastatic cancer, but which some moneyed Hong Kong residents have resorted to as an anti-aging treatment.

The DR beauty clinic claims that the $6,500 "platelet rich plasma" therapy is a facial revitalization treatment. DR founder, Dr. Stephen Chow Heung-wing says that growth factors in the patients' blood can be extracted, treated, and re-injected into the skin to fight signs of aging and procure "better-looking skin."

Sadly, each of the four women who bought into his line of thinking have had to contend with headaches, diarrhea and, in one case, death from complications. Haven't we taken this "look young at any cost" mentality a bit too far?
