Jin Soon's new polish collection.
The unquestionable queen of backstage Fashion Week manicures, Jin Soon Choi is taking a step out of the shadows to launch her own collection of polishes for fall. The debut includes two ranges of six shades each: Quintessential, classic reds and nudes, and A La Mode, fashion-forward bold hues. A base and top coat round out the mix.
"I wanted to do something high-fashion," she explained to ELLE.com at her West Village salon. "High-fashion isn't about crazy nail art, it's about high-gloss. It's very luxurious."
After years of creating runway nail looks for the likes of Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung, Choi's developed deep connections within the fashion world, including model pals. Proof? The A La Mode collection was named by familiar faces like Karlie Kloss, Coco Rocha, and Caroline Trentini (Kloss chose "Debonair" for her dark purple, while Rocha called a gray-blue mix, "Rhapsody"). When asked which supe was most excited about her christening duties, Choi coughed up Jamie Bochert's name.
The basic range has already proven to live up to its moniker. The lacquered red "Coquette" has been featured on several of Choi's recent cover shoots, and the black cherry "Risqué" can be spotted in Lanvin's fall ad campaign.
Fashion connections are met only by advanced knowledge of the nail industry. The formula is without toxins like formaldehyde and camphor, polymers and resin fight against chipping, and a UV-filter protects against fading.
Bottles will be available in early September at SpaceNK.com for $18. Come October, availability will be extended to select Manhattan Sephora shops and online, as well as Choi's website and small boutiques around the country.
