    Get Kate Middleton's Hair

    Elizabeth Siegel, Allure magazine

I don't know about you, but I love a good royal sighting. And in the past few days, it feels like there have been more than ever. (Thank you, Olympics!) After spotting Princess Mary of Denmark at an Olympic reception, Princess Letizia of Spain on vacation in Mallorca, and, of course, Kate Middleton at the games over the past few days (see the latter two above), I'm starting to understand why. Bluebloods have out-of-this world shiny hair! And getting glossy doesn't have to be a royal pain in the arse-here are a few tricks that are both easy and inexpensive:

    Take a shot of vinegar:
Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to any conditioner. The acidity helps seal the hair's cuticle and adds shine, says hairstylist Nathaniel Hawkins, who likes Garnier Fructis Color Shield Fortifying Cream Conditioner.

    Try a gloss:
Once every week or two, after shampooing, substitute your usual conditioner for an at-home gloss such as Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy Clear Shine Treatment. These act like spackle, filling in damage to the hair cuticle so it's smoother and better reflects the light, says Hawkins.

    Master shine spray:
When used incorrectly, shine spray can make hair look greasy and unkempt. Look for an aerosol shine spray like Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. They come aluminum bottles, and are the most lightweight. But even they need to be sprayed on from about six inches away, and only on the lengths-skip the roots, or they'll look greasy.
