While we are supposed to focus on the swimming pool and volleyball court for the next few weeks, I can't help but admire Duchess Kate when all eyes are on London. Yesterday, she arrived at The UK's Creative Industries Reception in a retro updo that brought us all the way back to the days of Bette Davis and Rita Hayworth. If you have any weddings or special affairs coming up for the final month of summer, this may be the perfect finishing touch to your look. Try out these simple steps below:
Step 1: Use root lifting spray, such as Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Hair Spray ($16.59, Meijer.com), to give the hair some volume and texture.
Step 2: Separate the hair into three sections. The first should be mid-way to the ear, the second up to the crown of the head, and the third should be the remaining strands. Pull the bottom section into a ponytail.
Step 3: Tease the ponytail to get volume and then twist into a bun. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 4: Now, onto the second section (or hair at the crown). Split into two sections by creating a diagonal part.
Step 5: Wrap the two pieces around the bun, with each going in an opposite direction.
Step 6: Twist the front pieces and wrap around the chignon. When placing the bobby pins at the top to keep hair in place, make sure to push up. This creates the volume at the crown.
Step 7: Apply a strong hold hairspray, such as Sebastian Re-Shaper Strong Hold Hairspray ($16.95, Ulta.com), to keep hair in place.
What do you think of Duchess Kate's elegant hairstyle? Do you prefer this to her usual soft waves?
