Olive oil: The best facial moisturizer that's already in your kitchenWho knew that your new favorite beauty product could be found in the kitchen?
Yes, I'm talking about olive oil as a face wash. While this seems counter-intuitive, oil will not cause your face to be greasy. On the contrary, healthy oils dissolve the dirty oils that collect on your face, leaving you with naturally clean, clear, and moisturized skin. Keep reading to learn how to use it yourself.

You may be wondering how oil on your face will leave you with glowing, smooth skin. The concept here is backed by chemical processes but uses no chemicals. Oil dissolves oil, since "like dissolves like."
From The Oil Cleansing Method: "The basic concept of this skin care and cleansing method is that the oil used to massage your skin will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and found itself stuck in your pores. The steam will open your pores, allowing the oil to be easily removed. Should you need it, the smallest drop of the same oil formula patted over damp skin will provide the necessary lubrication to keep your skin from over-compensating in oil production."

This method uses two oils, the first being castor oil.
Oil #1 — Castor Oil
Oil #1 - Castor Oil
Castor oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and is responsible for the dirt removal.
Oil #2 — Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
Oil #2 - Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
The second oil you need is extra-virgin olive oil. You may also choose to use another light, moisturizing oil. Some popular choices include sunflower seed oil, grapeseed oil, and jojoba oil.
The ratio of castor oil to olive oil will depend on whether your skin is normal, oily, or dry.
Normal Skin - 1:1 Castor-to-EVOO ratio
Dry Skin - 1:2 Castor-to-EVOO ratio
Oily Skin - 2:1 Castor-to-EVOO ratio

Steaming Your Face
Steaming Your Face
1. Massage a quarter-sized amount of the oil mixture into your face with your fingertips.
2. Soak a washcloth with very warm to hot water. Place it over your entire face and allow it to steam for 2-3 minutes or longer until the washcloth is cool.
3. Wipe the oil away using the washcloth. Rinse and wipe again 1-2 more times until the oil is removed.
4. If your skin feels dry, add one drop of olive oil back into your skin to moisturize.
