We understand if the sheer number of foundation types--whipped! high-definition! powder-to-cream!--leaves you numb. Here's the rule: Unless you have very oily skin, use a liquid or cream formula. "Powders, sticks, and matte finishes are harder to blend and can sit in lines and pores," says makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, whose clients include Kate Winslet. And no matter what your skin concern, a foundation with light-reflecting particles--it'll have a word like illuminating, luminous, or radiance in the name--makes you look glowier.
