Thank Your Lucky (Hearts And) Stars

With its tropical, lu

sh green landscape, Hawaii is the epicenter of natural scents and salves. From the popular Kona Red antioxidant-boosted energy drink and skin-soothing mango "butter buns" to a few local niche fragrance lines from brands like Saffron James, the Aloha State has plenty to offer when it comes to primping. And while Paul Mitchell's fully sustainable, solar-powered Awapuhi farm has been the big hair story on the Big Island for the past 20 years, stylist Jason Harsin is fixing to make his mark in the business of beautiful locks. After struggling to find a product range to help his clients replenish the protein that's often lost when hair is exposed to sun, sand, and surf, Harsin created Hearts & Stars, a two-piece offering that launched last month. The second thing you'll notice about the sulfate- and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner is their impressive olfactory attributes; essences of eucalyptus, tea tree, and sage disperse a fresh scent as you lather, rinse, and repeat. The next thing you'll pick up on is how squeaky clean your scalp is without feeling dry-the happy effect of a formula boosted with keratin and hemp oil to replenish, rather than strip, damaged strands. But what will no doubt be the first thing to catch your eye is Harsin's adorable, tattoo-influenced packaging concept that features every girl's favorite kitschy accessory: a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. In case you were wondering, the answer is yes; they look amazing in any well-appointed shower caddy.
