Bicycle racks that look good on your wall

Check out these cool ways to hang a bicycle on your living room wall. From small, sleek units to integrated bookcases, you can combine good looks with functionality and save floor space. Ad these designs are perfect for a city apartment where storage comes at a premium.

    • Horizontal Holder and Book Shelf Combo

Combining a horizontal bicycle rack and a book shelf seems like sheer genius to me. That's probably why my favorite wall rack is The Bike Shelf from Knife & Saw. Sleek, contemporary styling allows your bike to balance within a book shelf made from solid black walnut or hickory wood - pure perfection.

    • Bookcase and Vertical Rack

If you have room for something substantial on your wall and want to hang your bicycle upright, consider a bookcase with a vertical rack built into the side of it. It's a good way to bring a good amount of storage into the room - in addition to housing your pedal machine.

    • Contemporary Shadow Box Design

Imagine a collage of shadow boxes on your wall. Now imagine the bottom box standing out just far enough from the wall to hang your bike on. It's one contemporary design you may not be able to resist.

    • Brackets on a Backdrop

Here's a simple twist on ordinary bike brackets. Mount them on a wooden wall plaque and add your initials or decoupage a picture on it. It's an easy and inexpensive way to perk up plain metal brackets to fit into your interior spaces.

    • Small Units, Big Purpose

When it comes to wood, you can create any number of small hanging units with a big purpose. From open triangles, random cut outs or an oval chase, add a cut groove for your bike frame and you've got a way to stow your manual method of outside transportation inside.

    • Recycled Wood Pallet Design

Short on cash? Then do a little dumpster-diving (with permission, of course) for a couple of clean wood pallets to create a wall unit that can hold a couple of bikes and a few other pieces of cargo. Just mount the pallets on the wall and add bike brackets, as desired. Pair it up with a complementary book unit on the other side of your wall for symmetry and additional storage space.
