Pierogies: Mrs. T's Pierogies, the largest producers of pierogies in the US, says that Pittsburgh consumes 11 times more pierogies than any other city in the country. This is due to the city's large community of Polish people, but many non-Poles embrace the pierogi as well. Check out this recipe for authentic Pittsburgh pierogies from the blog Brown Eyed Baker. The key ingredient? Sour cream in the dough!

Kielbasa: Kielbasa is equally as popular in Pittsburgh as the pierogies, for the same reason. This simple kielbasa appetizer recipe only requires four ingredients, yet it'll flood you with memories of Pittsburgh in no time. And all Steelers fans love appetizers on toothpicks.
The Main Courses
Primanti's Sandwiches: Vinegar-based coleslaw. French fries. Italian bread. Juicy, grilled meat. It brings a tear to any Pittsburgher's eye. This recipe from CDKitchen is pretty good, one of the few that calls for vinegar in the coleslaw instead of mayo. It won't taste the same as a sandwich from the Strip District, but it'll be close enough!
Salad: Fresh greens. Other veggies of your choosing. Juicy steak strips. Cheese. Hot fries. Ranch or balsamic dressing. Seriously, how does everyone not put fries on their salads?
Chipped ham: "Chipping" ham against a meat slicer blade to make razor-thin slices is called chopping the meat "Pittsburgh-style." This recipe from AllRecipes.com probably won't be exactly the same as chipped ham from Isaly's, a Pittsburgh staple, but it's the next best thing. Banana splits: These delicious dessert staples were actually invented by 23-year-old David Evans Strickler, an apprentice pharmacist in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Students at Saint Vincent College couldn't stop talking about it, and now you can find them pretty much anywhere. Since this menu hasn't been calorie-laden enough for you (hey, the Steelers are in the Super Bowl, it's time to splurge!), try this Banana Split Cake recipe from Paula Deen. Probably easier to serve up some cake rather than dishing out individual banana splits, and you're paying homage to a Pittsburgher all at the same time.
