  • Back in Shine

    By Go2net, on Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:47pm PDT

Has it been a year already? I totally forgot I have an account here. Well, since my last post I have become  a stay-at-home mom here in Islamabad. My son lost his playmates when Marriott was bombed in September, and the British and Canadian embassies sent children and spouses of employees away.… Read More »

  • Strangers & Babies

    By Go2net, on Sun Jun 1, 2008 3:52am PDT

My 6-month old preemie is starting to show signs of stranger anxiety. He loves to go out though -- we've taken him to parks, groceries, a few parties -- but it looks like we need to be careful now about bringing him to places where's likely to be "handled" by strangers. When people... Read More »

  • Avent to Introduce BPA-free Bottles?

    By Go2net, on Thu May 15, 2008 10:38am PDT

I'm reposting my latest Wordpress blog here, as I am grateful to Shine and its members for alerting me about BPA in baby bottles: Is it true that Avent will be introducing BPA-free bottles? We use many Avent products, from baby bottles to nipples and sippy cups, to sterilizer, bottle heater, and... Read More »

  • Posting Photos of Your Children

    By Go2net, on Mon May 12, 2008 12:13am PDT

The discussion about Mom Blogging & Kathie Lee Gifford is making me wonder how blogging moms censor themselves on what pictures to post online and what to write about their children, while protecting their privacy on the Web. We live in Islamabad, but our families and friends are in the United... Read More »

  • All About Preemies ... in Ma.gnolia

    By Go2net, on Thu May 1, 2008 9:53am PDT

I just opened an account with ma.gnolia.com, a social bookmarking site and started a group to share my bookmarks about premature babies. As a computer teacher and parent of a boy born 6 weeks early I quickly realized information about the coping and the care of a preemie is hard to find in both... Read More »

  • Do the Right Thing & Still Feel Bad

    By Go2net, on Wed Apr 30, 2008 8:49am PDT

Did you ever do something you know was the right thing, like saying no, but still felt bad?A week after we hired our nanny she told us her husband of 15 years was having an affair. In the days that followed we learned that he left her and their four children, ages 5 to 12, to move in with his... Read More »

  • Letter of Recommendation for a Friend

    By Go2net, on Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:24am PDT

A colleague, someone I consider a good friend as well, asked me to write him a letter of recommendation because he is leaving our school at the end of his contract in June. I gladly said yes, but realized later it was not as easy as I thought. There are many websites that help us write letters of... Read More »

  • Blue & White Ceramic Dishes

    By Go2net, on Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:21am PDT

If all my dishes were as pretty as these I would probably come up with the lamest excuse to entertain just to show off. One of the things I would love to collect here in Islamabad are these lovely ceramic dishes. A friend has a lovely dinner set -- plates, cups, saucers, etc. made in Multan. I swore... Read More »

  • A Rose by Any Other Name ...

    By Go2net, on Sun Apr 27, 2008 8:29am PDT

I have never met a woman who does not like roses. But I met one who couldn't get enough of them. When a fellow teacher invited us to her family farm in the outskirts of Islamabad I visualized a place with a barn, some cows, goats, chickens, and even horses. We were surprised that it was more of a... Read More »

  • My First Mehndi

    By Go2net, on Sat Apr 26, 2008 9:38am PDT

We moved from Bangkok to Islamabad almost three years ago, but it was only today that I finally decided to have my hands adorned with mehndi or henna. This is as common as getting a manicure and pedicure here, but they're also an important part of weddings when female guests are invited to... Read More »
